Composer of the Half-Term STORMZY

Windrush Day is on 22nd June 2023. On this day, 75 years ago, 500 passengars arrived at Tilbury Docks, from their homes in the Caribbean. They had sailed to Britain on the ship, the Empire Windrush. Many of these people had served in the British armed forces in the Second World War. After the war, they returned to their homes in the Caribbean but then took the opportunity to come and live in Britain, to start new lives. 

These people brought with them a rich variety of music which has influenced many musical artists throughout Britain and across the world.

The music of the Caribbean, for example Calypso and Reggae, have inspired Hip-Hop and Grime artists in the UK, including Stormzy.

The video of Stormzy's song, "Blinded By Your Grace,"  was filmed in a London estate. Many of the families who feature in the video have connections with the Windrush Generation.
