Our Curriculum in Autumn 1:
Maths
Our first unit will be place value. Children will begin by learning how to count in 100s. They will learn that a 3-digit number is made up of hundreds, tens and ones and they will be able to represent this in many ways using equipment and/or pictorially. They will extend the number line
to 1,000 and know where different numbers lie. They will use their place value knowledge to compare and order 3-digit numbers.
English
This half term, children will use the book 'How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth' as a stimulus for their instruction writing. Children will explore the features of instruction writing focussing specifically on adjectives, imperative verbs and time conjunctions. They will then plan, write and edit their own instructions.
Children will also use the book 'Stone Age Boy' to inspire their writing of a setting description.
Topic
This half term the children will be learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age as part of our topic Through the Ages. We will be discovering what life was like during these time periods including the challenges that the early humans faced. As part of our topic we will be visiting Creswell Crags.
