We look forward to a year full of excitiement and new learning!

Doors open at 8.25am ready for an 8.30am start. Please try your best to be on time as the children go straight into phonics at this time.

Collection time is 3:00pm.  Please let staff know if someone else will be collecting your child.

Important Information:

PE days are Thursday afternoon. School PE kit is black leggings, jogging bottoms or shorts, white t-shirt and a jacket.  Children are to come to school in their PE kit on this day.

Please ensure that your child has a named bottle with only water inside, we are a healthy school and promote children drinking water throughout the day.  If your child would like milk, please register on www.coolmilk.com

Reading books are being sent home as part of their RWI lessons.  We ask that they are read on 3 separate occasions, signed and then brought back into school to show your reading teacher.  Please be aware that the class teacher may not also be the reading teacher - as they split and go to different groups for RWI.

Maths - Summer 2:

This half term in Maths the children will be learning about position and direction, including directional language. They will also be learning and working with numbers to 100. Then finally finishing off the school year with time and money. We will also be having some NFER tests where the children will put all of their learning together to answer some test style questions. 

English - Summer 2:

The children will be learning the story of The Midnight Teddies, they will be learning the T4W text and then applying all that they have learned to writing their own version of the story. They will have the opportunity to look at different word groups, sequencing the story and also planning, inovting and re-writing their own version. To finidh of the school year the children will be writing a recount about a visit that they have been on. 

Topic – School Days Summer 2:

During the topic of School Days, the children will be learning all about the Victorian School Days, this includes memorable experiences that they have had both in school and out of school. They will then be learning about plants and animals and how seasons change over time. The children will finish the year by taking part in Science week, Diversity Week and also a DT project including food technology.

 

Maths - Spring 1:

This half term in Maths the children will be learning about addition and subtraction within 20. They will be using place value to understand how the number can be partitioned in different ways. They will use tens and ones to add numbers together and tens frames. The children will also count to 20, write numbers to 20 in both numerals and words. Towards the end of this half term and continuing into next half term the children will be learning numbers to 50.

English - Spring 1:

The children have just started to learn the story of ‘The Queen’s Hat’ in relation to our topic Bright Lights, Big City. They will be learning to write in the past tense using the suffix –ed, adding extra description to their writing by using adjectives. Also, they will be using time connectives to order the story and say what comes next, after that and finally. The children will then move onto learning about non-fiction writing and how this is different to story writing/telling.

Topic – Bright Lights, Big City Spring 1:

During the topic of Bright Lights, Big City the children will be learning about London, Doncaster and also comparing to international countries. The children will be learning about London landmarks and also using their Art skills and techniques to create some sketches. We will be looking at physical and human features and where we would find them. Please find attached the homework for this half term one to be completed each half term for Bright Lights, Big City. The children will also start to learn about The Great Fire of London during the History lessons within this topic.

Maths - Autumn 2: 

This half term,  in Maths Year 1 will be learning numbers how to add and subtract numbers within 10 including finding the difference and using inequality signs, this also includes reading and writing numbers. They will then learn some new mathematical language for example: fewer, greater, less than, more than. They will then start to learn 2D shapes, 3D shapes and their properties. The children will then start to learn numbers to 20, including place value. There will be some work uploaded onto Learning with Parents for the children to work through. 

English - Autumn 2: 

The children have started to learn the story of ’How to Catch a Star’, they have used talk for writing actions to tell the story and add extra enthusiasm to their story telling. The children will work on writing simple sentences and the basic use of punctuation for example: capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. They are also trying really hard to add extra description to their work by adding adjectives. This story contains past tense words so they will be using the suffix –ed in their writing.  Later on, we will also focus on some non-fiction writing. There will be some work uploaded onto Learning with Parents for the children to work through. 

Topic – Moon Zoom – Autumn 2: 

This half term the children will be learning about space in our topic ‘Moon Zoom’, they have started looking at the different planets, ordering and naming the planets and thinking about what they’re like. They will be shortly learning about Ariel views of the sky from space. We will look at significant people that have made big changes to what we know about space, including Neil Armstrong.  They will also take part in a Science experiment and learn about ‘what keeps us dry?’. Towards the end of the unit of work they will make their very own Moon Buggy as part of their DT project for mechanics. For this we will need some modelling materials from home so please start to save these now.  

Please see attached the Moon Zoom homework for the children to work through there should be enough to do one per week until the end of term.

Maths - Autumn 1:

This half term in maths Year 1 will be learning numbers to 10, this includes reading and writing numbers as both digits and in words. They will learn new mathematical language for example: fewer, greater, less than, more than. They will compare amounts, groups and objects. They will start to understand and use the part, part whole model including adding and subtracting numbers within 10.

English - Autumn 1:

The children will use the Talk 4 Writing srategies to learn stories in english, starting with 'The Little Green Dinosaur'.  They will use actions to tell the story and add extra enthusiasm to their story telling.  The children will work on writing simple sentence and use basic punctuation for example: capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. 

Topic – Dinosaur Planet – Autumn 1:

This half term the children will be learning about dinosaurs in our topic ‘Dinosaur Planet’, we will look at different types of dinosaurs, label parts of the body and also using cross curricular maths to measure dinosaurs. They will be  learning about the seven continents and five oceans around the world and where some of these dinosaurs may have come from. The significant figure that the children will be learning about is Mary Anning and finding out what she is famous for.
