Towards the end of this half term and continuing into next half term the children will be learning numbers to 50.

The children have just started to learn the story of ‘The Queen’s Hat’ in relation to our topic Bright Lights, Big City. They will be learning to write in the past tense using the suffix –ed, adding extra description to their writing by using adjectives. Also, they will be using time connectives to order the story and say what comes next, after that and finally. The children will then move onto learning about non-fiction writing and how this is different to story writing/telling.

The children have started to learn the story of ’How to Catch a Star’, they have used talk for writing actions to tell the story and add extra enthusiasm to their story telling. The children will work on writing simple sentences and the basic use of punctuation for example: capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. They are also trying really hard to add extra description to their work by adding adjectives. This story contains past tense words so they will be using the suffix –ed in their writing.  Later on, we will also focus on some non-fiction writing. Towards the end of the unit of work they will make their very own Moon Buggy as part of their DT project for mechanics. For this we will need some modelling materials from home so please start to save these now.
