Y2 - Mrs Duckitt

Welcome to Y2 - Mrs Duckitt!

Information:

  • All of Class 3 are trying really hard in writing to improve their spelling - to help with this we are providing children with weekly spellings to learn at home.

  • We also encourage children to read at home - it would be highly appreciated if you could spend some time reading with you child and were able to sign their 'Reading Record Book'.

  • Class 3 are working hard with their 'Inspire Maths' - 'Home Learning' will be provided to support the weekly learning in class.

Please remind your children to bring their PE Kits on Tuesday as they have their sports coach (James) this will be inside - therefore shorts would be more appropriate, class 3 will also have PE on a Friday afternoon with Miss Hall.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Miss Hall.

In Class Learning...

Class 3 are working super hard with maths, English and reading. As we are on the run up to SATS the more work that you can do with your children at home the more that this will help with their in class learning.

Maths papers and reading papers (practice) can be found on the internet from previous SATS years, doing these with your children will help with their question understanding.

Common Exception words for Year 2 can be found on the internet, and your children should be receiving spellings each week also. If you would like a list of common exception words please ask Miss Hall or Mrs Williams.

Please keep supporting your children in their home learning as this will also help their learning.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Miss Hall and Mrs Williams.

Reading Challenge:

In Year 2 we are currently having a competition with Class 4 (Year 2) to see which class reads the most at home.

You can find our reading challenge display in the shared area in Year 2, each child keeps their own bookmark in their drawer at school, for each read that they complete and have signed at home they receive a sticker.

Once your child comes to the end of their line on their bookmark (completed with stickers), they then move up a place on the Reading Challenge Display, it is a race to the finish with some great rewards along the way.

To help your child get off the start line please read at least 3 times a week with them to see them progress and lets see who wins... will it be Class 3 or Class 4?

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Hall and Mrs Williams.

Reading Café:

Class 3 really enjoyed the Reading Café morning, it was lovely to see how many parent showed up to have breakfast and share stories with their children.

Please continue to come to our reading mornings which take place every Wednesday morning 8:30 - 8:55. Here you can share books with your children in the classroom and also Miss Hall and Mrs Williams if you have any questions about how to support your child's reading at home.

Many Thanks for your continued support.

Miss Hall and Mrs Williams.

Year 2 Maths:

We have been using different equipment to show 10, we used the Numicon, straws and cubes; we enjoyed showing this in different ways and checking to make sure that we still had 10.

Class 3 have enjoyed using the Diennes to support their learning of place value, ordering numbers and checking to make sure that they are correct.

Dinosaur Workshop!!

Class 3 were lucky enough to have a dinosaur expert come into the school and tell us lots of cool facts about the dinosaurs.

He told us about the height, weight, length and how long they lived for. We used our Maths knowledge and the metre sticks to show how tall some of the dinosaurs were. Take a look at some of our photos.

Some children measured the teeth of the dinosaur skull using a cm ruler!!

Reading Cafe:

Class 3 really enjoyed having breakfast with their parents at school and sharing stories together. It was really nice to see so many parents at the morning, thank you for your support. Take a look at a couple of our pictures below.

Thank you!

Class 3:

Remembrance Day

Class 3 have been learning about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies. They have been understanding the reason why we have a minutes silence on Remembrance Sunday, knowing now that this is a mark of respect to the people who went to battle for our country.

For this Class 3 have been creating their own poppies to make a wreath for the classroom door - Take a look at the photo below.

We also had a minutes silence on Friday 10th November 2017 in memory of all the people who lost their lives during that time.

We also identifies that the shape of a wreath is a circle so had to position the poppies very carefully to make sure that we formed a circle when creating our wreath.

Using Equipment in Maths:

Class 3 enjoyed using the different equipment in Maths this week to solve simple subtraction number sentences with numbers up to 20.

They had to pick two number cards, write down the bigger number - then show different ways of working out the answer by using the equipment.

Take a look at some of our pictures!!

York Railway Museum

Class 3 really enjoyed their trip to York Railway Museum, they had a fabulous Punch and Judy show, a ride on the miniature railway. We then had some time to look at some of the trains in the museum and find out some interesting facts about them.

Class 3 were then ready to have their dinner and were really sensible and a credit to the school.

To finish we went to have a presentation about The Rocket - made by George Stephenson. The children really enjoyed acting out the way that train moves and all the different processes that it went through to move.

Take a look at some of our pictures below.

Welcome Back!!

We hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and wish you all the best for 2018!! This term we are learning to multiply and divide during Maths. We are learning the story of 'How Turtle got his Shell' in English performing Talk for Writing to go with this story. During our afternoons and Topic time we will be learning about Homes - How they are similar, different and comparing them to different houses around the world.

This week class 3 went for a walk around the local area to see whether we could identify some different homes and their names. Take a look at a couple of our pictures.

Thank you again for your continued support,

Miss Hall and Mrs Williams.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Class 3 really enjoyed their trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, even though the weather was a little miserable we managed to see lots of different animals. It was very exciting to hear the lions roar and see the polar bears so close. One of our best parts was seeing the otters have fun in the water - Did you know they are able to hold their breath underwater for around 8 minutes?

We were also lucky enough to see a baby camel in the field and a joey in the pouch!! They were really cute and we had to use our quiet voices around them so we didn't scare them.

Take a look at some of our pictures!! We will also be putting some on our classroom door for you to have a look at.

Welcome Back!!!

We hope that you had a very restful Easter, I personally would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes for my wedding that took place over Easter - it really was a lovely day.

Now we are on the final push before SATS, anything that you can do at home with your child would be appreciated. There are work sheets in the shared area that you are welcome to take, along with homework that is being set weekly. Reading at home and learning spellings will all help in addition to the work that the children are doing at school - so please continue with this.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask either myself or Mrs Williams.

Thank you for your continued support!!

Mrs Duckitt & Mrs Williams

Symmetry and Shapes

Class 3 have been working with shapes and finding lines of symmetry in Maths over the last 2 weeks - they have been using different equipment to help them. Take a look at some of them investigating whether the shapes they have made have lines of symmetry on them.

We are now moving on to investigate 3D shapes.

Thank you for looking,

Mrs Duckitt.
