Maths

Class 3 have been practising their column addition and column subtraction skills, to help with this we have been playing the race to 0 game. The children have to exchange their 'base 10' tens for ones until they have 0 left understanding the place value of each number and what can and cannot be subtracted. Take a look below! Keep up the good work!

Art

Class 3 enjoyed creating their own self portraits and thinking about size, proportion and colour. They tried really hard and took a lot of time and patience to perfect their portraits. First they drew their portraits using light sketching skills, followed by them painting with water colours and finishing off with some darker detail.

Take a look at some of them below - I think they did an amazing job.

Keep up the amazing work!!   Mrs Duckitt

Maths:

Class 3 have been working with the Cuisenaire rods ordering them from the smallest to the largest and talking about their value. Take a look at some of the wonderful work that the children have been doing.

We are soon going to be looking at different ways of using the rods to add and subtract. Also we are going to be comparing the rods and says which are longer, shorter and how we know this by saying the value of each rod.

Welcome to Class 3:

Class 3 teachers Mrs Duckitt and Mrs Bartley are very excited about working with you all this year - here are a few things about Year 2 and Class 3 that you may find helpful.

PE Days - Class 3 will be having PE on Wednesday and Thursday each week for an hour. Can you please ensure that your child has their PE kits on these days. PE kit consists of black shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms, either a white or blue PE top and a pair of sensible shoes either pumps or trainers.

Reading: We have a reading challenge in Year 2 the board is in the shared area and for every 10 reads completed you move along the pathway. Once you reach the end of the reading challenge there will be a prize and certificate handed out in assembly on a Friday. Please try and read with your child after school as this will help with their reading at school. Please remember to sign your childs reading record so that they get their sticker on the chart.

Homework: Class 3 will be given new homework in their homework books every week.  They will receive new spellings each week to practice for a test the following Friday and either a maths or English task to complete. Please ensure that homework books are handed to the class teacher no later than Thursday each week so that new homework can be set and previous homework can be marked. Thank you!!
