Y2 - Miss Hall

Sports Week and Sports Day:

This week Year 2 are enjoying taking part in lots of different activities related to Sports, they have been Cheer-leading, playing parachute games, rounders, sports day practice.

On Monday 19th June 2017 it is Sports Day, would you please allow your child to come to school already dressed in their PE kit, this would be greatly appreciated and a big help. You are more than welcome to stay and support your child, please bring a chair or blanket to sit on as it will be on the school field.

There will be refreshments and cakes that you can purchase on the day!

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Hall and Mrs Williams.

Welcome to Y2 - Miss Hall!

Information:

  • All of Class 3 are trying really hard in writing to improve their spelling - to help with this we are providing children with weekly spellings to learn at home.

  • We also encourage children to read at home - it would be highly appreciated if you could spend some time reading with you child and were able to sign their 'Reading Record Book'.

  • Class 3 are working hard with their 'Inspire Maths' - 'Home Learning' will be provided to support the weekly learning in class.

Please remind your children to bring their PE Kits on Monday as they have their sports coach (dance) this will be inside - therefore shorts would be more appropriate.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Miss Hall

A Victorian Childhood...

Class 3 are looking forward to learning about their new topic this half term -
'A Victorian Childhood'
Looking at past toys and games then comparing these to present toys and games. We are also going to look at the difference in clothing and school life, from the past to the present day.

This interesting topic will spark imaginations and allow children explore the differences in the way children and families lived.

We hope to put some lovely trip pictures up soon!

Our trip to Cusworth Hall

Class 3 had a fantastic day at Cusworth Hall, we all got the chance to dress up as a Victorian child. We also got chance to have a school photo taken with Miss Hall.

Class 3 learned about washing, teaching and also information about different artefacts from the Victorian Era.

We also had a fabulous afternoon in the Museum playing 'eye spy' for hidden artefacts.

Take a look at some of the photos from our trip.

KS1 Craft Afternoon

The KS1 children enjoyed their Christmas Craft Afternoon. It was great to see so many children and parents enjoying themselves making lots of lovely Christmas crafts. Thank you to everyone that came and made it a fantastic afternoon.

Welcome back!!

We would firstly like to say 'Happy New Year' to all Class 3 and parents/carers, we hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and we are looking forward to the term ahead and making 2017 fabulous in Year 2.

This half term we are learning about the 'Weather' in England and across the world. Class 3 have already enjoyed using different materials to create some seasonal pictures.

Next week Class 3 are moving on to learning about 'Length' in Maths using different equipment to help support learning.

This week we have started learning out poem of the week using 'Talk for Writing' actions, it is called 'Winter Time'.

Many Thanks for your continued support.

Chinese New Year

Class 3 have enjoyed creating some Chinese crafts to show at their assembly, they have been practising super hard ready for their performance to parents. Take a look at some of the amazing photos. We even had a Chinese banquet, we had a go at using chopsticks too.

In Class Learning...

Class 3 are working super hard with maths, English and reading. As we are on the run up to SATS the more work that you can do with your children at home the more that this will help with their in class learning.

Maths papers and reading papers (practice) can be found on the internet from previous SATS years, doing these with your children will help with their question understanding.

Common Exception words for Year 2 can be found on the internet, and your children should be receiving spellings each week also. If you would like a list of common exception words please ask Miss Hall or Mrs Williams.

Please keep supporting your children in their home learning as this will also help their learning.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Miss Hall and Mrs Williams.

Welcome Back!!

We hope that you have had a lovely week off and are ready to start the second part of the term.

This term Class 3 will be covering the topic 'Minibeasts', looking at 'Minibeasts' their habitats and also living, non-living and things that have never been living.

In Maths we will be focusing a lot on Multiplication and Division and looking at our times tables, continuing to learn our '3X Tables' and beginning to learn our '4X Tables' to help us in our SATS!

It would be much appreciated if you carried this on with your children at home.

To start in English we are going to be looking at 'Poetry' and 'Riddles', creating 'Minibeast Riddles' to see whether we can guess what 'Minibeasts' we are giving clues about.

We thank you for your continued support.

Miss Hall and Mrs Williams.

Reading Challenge:

In Year 2 we are currently having a competition with Class 4 (Year 2) to see which class reads the most at home.

You can find our reading challenge display in the shared area in Year 2, each child keeps their own bookmark in their drawer at school, for each read that they complete and have signed at home they receive a sticker.

Once your child comes to the end of their line on their bookmark (completed with stickers), they then move up a place on the Reading Challenge Display, it is a race to the finish with some great rewards along the way.

To help your child get off the start line please read at least 3 times a week with them to see them progress and lets see who wins... will it be Class 3 or Class 4?

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Hall and Mrs Williams.
