Physical Education at Lakeside Primary

Physical Education at Lakeside Primary

For the academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 the government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

At Lakeside Primary School we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well being of the children. In addition, we believe that an outstanding PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of the children.

The government funding is being used at our school to hire qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE. The aim is t0 increase professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport, whilst also seeking to engage and support children of all different sporting abilities. We have worked hard to plan a varied PE curriculum. Here is a table showing what our children will cover in PE throughout 2013/2014:

We also aim to increase pupils’ participation in sporting competitions – both within school and competing against other schools. We recognise the importance of competitive sport in teaching children discipline, following the rules of a game and how to abide by them and very importantly how to work as part of a team!

Keep a look out on the website for updates on PE, it looks set to be an exciting year ahead for sport at Lakeside!
